When it comes to website design it can often be very tempting to use a template that has already been made by a professional website designer. Whilst this does have many advantages there are also benefits if you use a custom website design. In this blog post we are going to look at some factors surrounding the choice to use a pre-designed website template.
Using a template
+ It is cheaper than having a custom website design made for your website
+ It is a lot faster and in some cases all that you need to do is edit some images and put your company logo on the template.
+ There are thousands of pre-made templates available on the internet, some of which are free and some that are premium.
- A lot of people already use templates, so someone out there will have the same design as you
- It does not make your company stand out and can even look “tacky” if a potential client recognises that you are using a free template or a template that they have previously seen on a competitor’s website.
- If the template has been designed with poor functionality you will have a malfunctioning site until bugs are reported and fixed. This would be dealt with during the testing stage if you had a custom website design.
