How to add language in your OpenCart website?

OpenCart supports multi-language feature. If you want a website with multi-languages, then OpenCart is good for you. You can set multi-language description for different products here. So that when a user selects a particular language on home page, all the product description will be translated in that language. You can set abundant languages for your website visitors. Your visitors can change the language by selecting the flag representing that particular language at the top of website. Learn how to change the language in this step by step tutorial.

Step 1: At first, download the language pack from Opencart Extension Directory

Step 2: Now, upload the language to your OpenCart site. You can do this by using FTP as well as File manager.

Step 3: Sign in to your OpenCart dashboard.


Step 4: After that go to System, then Localization and Language


Step 5: Click on Insert which is present at the upper right corner

Step 6: Complete the fields by referring the instructions given on language pack.


Following fields need to be filled;

Code: For example en.

(P S: Do not change if this is your default language.)

Locale: Refer the language pack. Locale can be US.UTF-8,en_US,en-gb or en_gb,English

Image: For instance fr.png

Directory: It is case sensitive. Fill the name of language directory.

Filename: The name of main filename without the extension.

Status: Change it to enable.

Sort Order: The order of displaying this language.

Step 7: Now, click on Save to save your settings.

Now, when you will visit the site, you can change the language with the language listed at the top and represented by flag.
