First thing which you must do is to connect your blog with your Google+ profile.

You need to manually tweak your template code, if you don’t wish to revert the Widget template. Search for a code which looks like (Do a Ctrl + F for threaded_comments or ‘comments’)

<b: if cond=’data:blog.pageType == &quot;static_page&quot;’>

<b:if cond=’ data:post.showThreadComments’>

<b:include data=’post’ name=’threaded_comments’/>

<b: else/>

<b: include data=‘post’ name=’comments’/>

</b :if>

</b :if>

<b: if cond=’data:blog.pageType == &quot;static_page&quot;’>

<b:if cond=’ data:post.showThreadComments’>

<b:include data=’post’ name=’threaded_comments’/>

<b: else/>

<b: include data=‘post’ name=’comments’/>

</b :if>

Here, you have to replace the highlighted areas with

<b:include data=’post’ name=’comment_picker’/>

Activating G+ comments in WordPress website

First step is to download the Google+ comment plug-in for WordPress.

Now, upload the G+ comment plug-in to your WordPress directory.

Go to dashboard in order to activate the plug-in.

Advantages of Google+ comments

You can see your blog as well as G+ comments in one place.

You will be able to see the activity of direct visitors and people discussing about your blog on G+.

Users can comment publicly or privately to their G+ circles.

You have power to edit or delete a comment.

In Facebook comments, your older comments are not visible. But, in G+ commenting system, all your comments and comment counts will not disappear.

It is cleaner and has aesthetic value than Blogger’s default.

It is effective in reducing spam comments.

G+ comments need Google Authorship implementation so that the commenting system knows who you are.

Disadvantages of Google+ comments

Readers will not be able to comment with other logins. To leave a comment, reader must have Google account or he/she will be required to create an account.

Commenting system is dependent on URL of your blog. If you change the URL, then you will not be able to move these comments and they will be erased.

Speed of page loading is another cause of worry. It takes some time to fetch all data from Google.

There is no notification for new comments in blogger dashboard.

You can reply to G+ comments only.

Users cannot leave a comment on your blog via mobile phones.

You can delete Google+ comments from your blog, but they will remain on Google+.

Not useful for SEO. Many times, you get an awesome comment from a visitor, which can be indexed by search engines and lead to higher rankings.  But the G+ comments are hosted on Google servers and are not part of your domain.

At the end, we can say, using G+ comments may not be suitable for you and depends upon the type of website. There are others options like WP commenting system or system run by disqus. You can avoid spam and scam by installing plug-ins like Akismet. For more details about anti-spam WordPress plug-ins, read this article on Best anti-spam WordPress plug-ins to stop spam comments.
