Tuesday, June 25, 2013    4:57 pm

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an important element of your website marketing strategy. If your SEO tactics have flaws, then your website will suffer a hefty loss in Google rankings. Recently, Google and its engineer Matt Cutts announced updates like Penguin 2.0 which are related to SEO. Here, in this article, we will discuss the devastating mistakes which you should avoid.

SEO Mistakes

Lack of keywords research

You should include right words on your page. For instance, do not use ‘Niagara Fall height’ instead of that use ‘What is the height of Niagara fall’. Because people will enter their query in this format. So complete your research on keywords before writing.

Website which is not crawlable

Ensure that your website is crawlable. That means, links within your website and links to your website should be discoverable by search engine spiders.

Duplicate and Irrelevant content

Content is an important part of SEO. People will not read your page if the content is irrelevant and non-informative. Your content should thrust users to stay on your page and read it. So, focus on placing good and informative content on your website. Having duplicate content on website is a big mistake. Duplicate content will have a very bad impact on your website ranking.

Images stuffed with text

If you stuff most of your content in images, then don’t do that. Because search engine spiders cannot read the content inserted in images.

Title and meta description

Ensure that you have one-of-its-kind title and meta description for every page of your website. Don’t use same title and description throughout the website.

Spam back links

Instead of giving attention to quantity of back links, think about quality of back links. If you practice spam back linking, then your website may get banned.

Anchor text like “click here” or “more”

Search engines do not understand what the page being linked to is about, if you use anchor text like Click here or Read more. Instead of using Click here or Read more, you can give description in short sentence and then link it.

You can learn a lot about SEO through webmaster resources like forums, blogs, videos etc. Use these resources for enhancing your SEO techniques.
