How to get Google Authorship for content?
Friday, May 10, 2013    5:22 am

If you want to associate your content with your name next to it and an image, then you can do it with Google Authorship. It is one of the features of Google; through which you can link your content on a particular domain such as your blog or website for which you contribute.

Without wasting much time, let’s get back straight on how to get Google Authorship for your content?

Step 1

The first step towards Google authorship is to create a Google Plus (G+) account. Make your profile and fill all the fields. Upload a good quality photograph which shows your full face, as your photo will appear next to content in search results. Avoid using logos, arty shots or avatars. Pay attention that your byline (your name) appears on each page of content. Take care that your name on G+ profile and byline is same.

Step 2

This is an important step, where you have to fill the “contributor to” section of your G+ account. Here, list all the websites for which you are contributing. Insert link of your home page or author page.

Step 3

After this, comes the rel=author tag. The rel=author tag is a small piece code which you should insert in every page. Include this snippet at the bottom of your website, as it will not divert attention of viewers.

Step 4

Solution for authors who are not able to insert rel=author tags, is to verify e-mail address from the website where their content is getting published.  Suppose, your website is Mia Cooper’s and e-mail address is, then it can be verified with G+ Authorship Pages.

A verification link will be sent to your e-mail Id; you have to click on that link for verification.

Step 5

If your e-mail address does not have domain name of the website, then you can set-up your G+ profile by rel=author tag verification. This code can be placed anywhere in content, although sidebar embedded in Google Plus icon is an ideal place for it.

Step 6

Through Google Structured Data Testing Tool, you can confirm whether Google Authorship is working or not.

Benefits of Google Authorship

  • It makes you stand out in search results.

  • Boost click through rates of website.

  • Listings stand out from others which make you highly noticeable.

  • It enhances page views.

  • You get more followers on G+.

  • Users will be able to find quality content on web world.

  • Users get chance to engage themselves with authors on G+.

  • Set apart your content.

  • It will help to reduce piracy and spam.

For guest blogs

If you are writing for guest blog, then provide proper HTML to host blog while linking it with your G+ account and the rel=author in the link. Add markup, to get good snippet.  After this, add a link to guest blog post in “Contributors to” links.
